Purpose: The contest serves as an opportunity for the people of Akwasiho Villageto use their creativity and know-how to contribute the improvement to the design of Solar Cookers and their use in the village and other places. Contest Rules: You may attend a solar workshop sponsored by the Technical Advisory Team to better understand the use of solar energy and to get ideas for your cooker. To be eligible to win a prize in the contest, all contestants must sign-up with Technical Advisory Team and submit a form (see below) by February 15. A date in March will be established with the Techncial Advisory Team to see a demonstration of your cooker. You should test your ccoker before the judging takes place. Ten finalists will be chosen to prepare an entire meal at the Chief’s palace, and the final judging will take place, and prizes given in April. More than one design concept may be entered per person, but only one design construction per person will be considered to win a prize. Design Specifications: The solar cooker must be portable and not weigh more than 15 lbs; the size of the cooker should not exceed 4 ft in long, 3 ft in wide, 21/2 ft deep It should be capable of reaching a minimum temperature of 212oF or 100oC and a maximum temperature of 400oF or 200oC (average temp. for stove top and oven cooking). It should be capable of cooking different kinds of food. Eligibility Requirements and Judging Criteria All contestants must follow the rules of the contest. All cookers must be available for demonstration in Akwasiho Village. The cooker should be capable of reaching the temperatures stated above. Winning designs will be judged based on appearance decoration and stability, conformance to rules , originality and creativity, and cooking performance (temperature reached, time for cooking foods).
