Text Box: Morgan was an African-American inventor and businessman. He is best known for his invention the traffic signal which was patented in 1923. He also developed the gas mask (and many other inventions). Morgan used his gas mask (patent No. 1,090,936, 1914) to rescue miners who were trapped underground in a mine. Soon after, Morgan was asked to produce gas masks for the US Army during World War I. He was inducted into the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame May 13, 2005.
