The Northern California Council of Black Professional Engineers (NCCBPE) is a 501 c (3) non-profit organization. We request your support in helping us develop the Museum of African American Technology (MAAT) Science Village.
NCCBPE has opened the Museum of African American Technology (MAAT) Science Museum Village at 408-14th St. in Oakland California. The Museum is designed to be consistent with the atmosphere of an African village. In the village everyone has a specific role but also has access to all of the availableresources intellectual, spiritual and material. Every member of the village has the opportunity to experience all aspects of the museum but specific interests are addressed.
Purpose
The purpose of the Museum is to provide exhibitions using the principles of Ma'at to generate a genuine interest in science and engineering among the young and the adult public. Ma'at was characterized in ancient Kemet (Egypts original African name) as a holistic view of the laws of nature, of how things relate to each other. The Museums focus is to teach people how much science they already know through their daily experience and then to expand their knowledge.
It uses the principles of Ma'at to guide our community in the exploration of science and technology . These principles provide an integrated analytical and intuitive approach to explain science concepts, which will be reinforced by identifying the use of these concepts in everyday life. The understanding of science is promoted as an explanation of the organization and maintenance of the universe and the properties or laws of nature which adhere to Ma'at. In the African Mystery System of Kemet, Ma'at was the spirit and method of organizing and conducting all the relations of human society (including the development and use of science) in a righteous and ethical manner. Maat expresses all notions of equilibrium, harmony and truth. MAAT Science Village assists the lay community to understand cutting edge technology and to use it to solve everyday problems such as the energy demands and costs. It will ensure that our youth consider science and engineering as a career option.
