NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COUNCIL OF BLACK PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS
NCCBPE is a 501 (c) (3),non-profit organization established in 1970 by a group of concerned engineers seeking to form ties between the many Black scientists in Northern California. The logo and background of this website is a set of gear wheels turning as they are automatically oiled. This signifies that this site is the "Real McCoy". It's the " Real McCoy" is an old expression which is commonly used to indicate that something is real, very efficient, and reliable. It originated with manufacturers who used the phrase to describe their machines which featured an automatic lubricator patented by the black inventor Elijah McCoy. Inspired by the achievements of Elijah McCoy, the Northern California Council of Black Professional Engineers, NCCBPE, was established in 1970. NCCBPE realizes that education is the key to success, and that a technical education offers the opportunity to acquire a broad spectrum of knowledge which is fundamental to a variety of careers. The focus is on assuring tat new generations of Black students will be trained in the sciences and engineering. As opportunities develop for advanced schooling and careers, Black contributions should increase and thus enhance the living standard. To help carry out its mission, NCCBPE has established the Museum of African American Technology (MAAT) Science Village which conducts and develops hands-on science demonstrations . MAAT Science Village works with parents, teachers and students to tailor activities for their special needs , and to meet the California science education standards.
